What makes this recipe even easier is the fact that you only need three ingredients to make this jam. Even better, you most likely already have all these ingredients in your pantry, as they are very common items.

Enjoy the last of those blueberries and make this paleo friendly blueberry jam recipe.

In this article, we have provided you with simple steps to help you to create this three ingredient blueberry jam.

You Need Only Three Ingredients

Making jam, in general, can seem quite scary, but with this recipe it involves just three simple ingredients. This includes:

  • 4 cups of blueberries.
  • 1 lemon (juice).
  • ⅓ cup of maple syrup.

Due to the pectin that blueberries and lemons naturally contain, once they are cooked with maple syrup, they come together to form jam. Additionally, the lemon juice has the added advantage of aiding in the reduction of bacterial growth in the jam.

In many recipes, the ratio of blueberries to honey, syrup, or sugar is 2:1, or in the worst circumstances, both ingredients are used in identical proportions!

However, we discovered that it isn’t necessary to add so much sugar if you are utilizing ripe berries at their peak. Since, in reality, you are not allowing the flavor of the blueberries to show through.

Three Ingredient Blueberry Jam Steps

Now that you have your ingredients, you can begin your jam making journey. Follow our simple steps below to help you to make the best blueberry jam.

Step 1: Combine Ingredients

In a heavy based pot, add all your ingredients to the pot. Mix everything together and place it onto the stove. Turn your stove onto a medium heat and bring the contents of the pot to the boil.

Step 2: Crush The Blueberries

You want to keep boiling this mixture, until the blueberries have started to go soft. Now at this point you can get a potato masher and crush the blueberries. This allows them to release more of their juices to the jam.

If you don’t have a potato masher, you could wait until the blueberries are completely soft and use the back of a wooden spoon.

Step 3: Reduce Heat

Now you can reduce the heat slightly to start creating that jam-like constituency. You still want your pot to be boiling, but you don’t require an aggressive or rolling boil.

The aim here is to reduce some of the liquid in the pot, and to allow the sugar and pectin within the fruit to combine. This will then start to produce the gel and jam-like texture we know of.

Step 4: Allow The Mixture To Boil

The mixture will initially be somewhat thin and start to turn a violet/purple color. The mixture will start to thicken and form a thin layer of froth on top as it continues to boil. At this point, the jam doesn’t need to be stirred.

The froth that was present at first will start to fade after about 20 minutes, and it will disappear completely after a few minutes. Leaving just a mixture that is richly colored, thick, and shiny.

At this stage, stir the jam to keep it from burning and clinging to the bottom of your pot.

Step 5: The Jam Is Ready

When an instant-read thermometer or candy thermometer reads 210 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature at which a jam is ready to set, the jam is ready.

The frozen plate test is another option. It instructs you to freeze a plate, remove it, and then pour some of your mixture to the plate. The jam is ready when the mixture wrinkles under light pressure.

You may also judge the jam’s quality due to the fact that all the froth has vanished, and it is shiny. Set the timer, but don’t just leave the pot; use the time indicators we’ve provided as a guide. You must exercise some discretion and pay close attention to how the jam looks.

Step 6: Let The Jam Cool

If you are happy with the consistency of the jam, then allow it to cool slightly, before transferring it to sterilize jars. Once in its jars, place it into the fridge to set overnight.

Storing Your Blueberry Jam

You should store your blueberry jam in sterilized jars so that it will last longer. As mentioned above, you should then place the jars in the fridge so that it can completely set. You should leave the jam in the refrigerator until you wish to use it.

You can leave your jars of jam in the fridge for up to 3 months. In addition to this, you can freeze this jam as well. If you do freeze this jam, then allow it to defrost in the fridge overnight before using.
